If you’ve got a deck and it needs a spruce up, then you could easily give it an entirely new vibe just by trying some new deck railing ideas. There is plenty you can do yourself, too, with just a few tools and a little bit of know-how (know-how that you can always learn from the internet), some even using recycled materials to keep the costs low and your footprint green.
One idea that could work very cost-effective is to recycle and dismantle old pallets and use the parts, fixed to the handrail and base rail, to create your slats, just sand them down and stain them and you’re away with something that you could well have lying around your yard.
If you don’t have spare pallets around, and you can’t get some from stores nearby, you can buy several planks of wood and create a very similar effect. You could even try attaching the planks horizontally for a fresh new look.
You could try an interesting rustic and natural look by using logs and branches, especially if you have any trees that need cutting down on your property, using bigger branches/logs for the horizontal rails and then smaller branches to bridge the gap between them, which could change the feel of not only you’re decking but your whole property.
When thinking about your new deck railing ideas, then consider adding a bar rail the whole way around, so next time you have guests for a party or BBQ at your home in Chicago you have somewhere to put your drinks while relaxing on your deck.
